The Client

The client for this project is Umi to Hi, a fictional Japanese restaurant concept located in California. Umi to Hi focuses on sushi, yakitori, and ramen, combining traditional Japanese techniques with a warm, modern dining experience. The restaurant’s brand centers around balance, craftsmanship, and community, which guided both the visual design and the content of the website.

Client Needs

The client needed a fully functioning website that could present the restaurant’s brand, menu, and values while also supporting online ordering and promotional content.

In addition to a strong visual identity, the project required the creation of a seasonal promotional campaign to demonstrate how a restaurant could engage users beyond basic menu listings. The challenge was to design a website and campaign that felt authentic, purposeful, and easy to navigate.

Solution

To address these needs, I designed and built a multi-page restaurant website using WordPress and Elementor. The site includes a homepage, menu, order-online functionality, blog content, and a promotional landing page. I developed the Season of Warmth campaign, a holiday promotion centered around donating $1 for every bowl of miso ramen sold. Although the nonprofit used is fictional for the purposes of the assignment, the campaign allowed me to practice creating cohesive messaging across the website, social media posts, and email marketing while maintaining a consistent brand voice.

Reflection

Through this project, I gained hands-on experience building a complete website from concept to execution. I learned how to structure content strategically, create promotional campaigns that tell a story, and manage technical challenges such as site performance and plugin conflicts. If I were to improve this project, I would spend more time refining accessibility, optimizing load speeds, and improving the checkout experience. Overall, the project helped me better understand how design, content, and strategy work together to support a brand’s goals.
